Before founding Nexyo, Alejandra Lapique spent years working in international development and social protection, including projects with the United Nations. Throughout her career, she focused on improving access to opportunities, strengthening communities and helping people connect with the resources around them.
Today, she is the founder of Nexyo, a real-time local discovery app that is rapidly becoming an indispensable tool for residents, visitors and local businesses alike.
In this interview with Spain Expat Press, Lapique discusses the inspiration behind the platform, the challenges facing small businesses in an increasingly crowded digital landscape and her vision for the future of local connection.
Spain Expat Press:
What problem were you trying to solve when you created Nexyo? And why has it become so successful?
Alejandra Lapique:
I kept noticing the same disconnect over and over again. People walk through busy neighbourhoods every day without knowing what opportunities are right around the corner. A restaurant may have available tables, a beauty salon might have a last-minute cancellation, a local shop may be running a special promotion, or a networking event could be taking place just a few streets away. The information exists, but it often fails to reach the people who would actually benefit from it.
That gap between supply and demand is what inspired Nexyo.
Spain Expat Press:
How would you describe the platform to someone hearing about it for the first time?
Alejandra Lapique:
Nexyo is a real-time discovery platform built around proximity. It helps people instantly find businesses, events, services and opportunities that are happening nearby. Instead of searching endlessly or relying on outdated information, users can see what is available around them at that moment. We often describe it as transforming cities into living, dynamic maps of opportunity.
Spain Expat Press:
Small businesses are already present on Google, Instagram and other digital platforms. Why is another channel necessary?
Alejandra Lapique:
Because visibility has become increasingly difficult and expensive.
Many small business owners spend hours creating content, managing social media accounts and trying to understand constantly changing algorithms. Even then, there is no guarantee that their message will reach the right audience.
Nexyo takes a different approach. Rather than competing for attention globally, businesses can connect with people who are physically nearby and potentially ready to make a decision immediately. That creates a much more relevant and efficient interaction.
Spain Expat Press:
You often describe Nexyo as more than a marketing platform.
Alejandra Lapique:
Absolutely. We see it as a revenue recovery tool.
Every empty table, every cancelled appointment, every unsold ticket or quiet hour represents lost income that can never be recovered. Once that moment passes, the opportunity is gone.
By helping businesses communicate availability in real time, we enable them to turn otherwise lost opportunities into actual revenue.
Spain Expat Press:
Your background is quite different from that of many technology entrepreneurs…
Alejandra Lapique:
Before founding Nexyo, I spent years working in international development and social protection programmes, including projects linked to the United Nations.
Those experiences taught me an important lesson: access matters. People make better decisions when they have better information, and communities thrive when opportunities are visible and accessible.
Technology should not exist simply for the sake of innovation. It should solve real-world problems and create meaningful opportunities for people. That philosophy is deeply embedded in Nexyo.
Spain Expat Press:
Spain has seen significant growth in tourism, remote work and international mobility in recent years. Does that trend strengthen the need for platforms like Nexyo?
Alejandra Lapique:
Today’s cities are increasingly populated by visitors, expatriates, digital nomads and people who may not have established local networks. They often don’t know where to go, what is happening nearby or which businesses they can trust.
At the same time, local businesses are looking for ways to reach these audiences without spending huge amounts on advertising.
Nexyo creates a bridge between those two realities. It helps people discover their surroundings more easily while giving businesses a practical and affordable way to be discovered.
Spain Expat Press:
What is your long-term vision?
Alejandra Lapique:
I would like local discovery to become effortless.
Whether you are a resident, an expat, a digital nomad or a tourist visiting a city for the first time, you should be able to open an app and instantly understand what is happening around you.
At the same time, I want businesses to have a fair opportunity to be seen without constantly battling algorithms, rising advertising costs and digital noise.
Spain Expat Press:
Finally, if you had to summarise Nexyo in a single sentence?
Alejandra Lapique:
Don’t wait to be found. Be present.
