A giant fighting bull walking through a living room, watching television and behaving almost like a household pet? What sounds at first like a bizarre internet story is actually real — and is currently captivating all of Spain.

The bull is called Tamariz and lives on a property in San Sebastián de los Reyes near Madrid. Videos of the animal have gone viral in recent days, generating enormous attention across social media, television programmes and Spanish media outlets.

In the footage, the several-hundred-kilo Toro Bravo can be seen calmly walking through a house, standing between sofas and furniture, and even pausing in front of the television. For many Spaniards, the scenes appear almost surreal, as fighting bulls are normally regarded as extremely powerful and unpredictable animals.

Behind Tamariz is the Madrid-based bullfighter and cattle breeder “Chechu”. According to Spanish media reports, the bull was rejected by its mother shortly after birth and therefore had to be bottle-fed. As a result, an unusually close bond between human and animal appears to have formed from a very early stage.

Over time, Tamariz became increasingly accustomed to human contact and eventually began moving freely between the stables, the property and the family home. These are precisely the scenes that have now turned him into an internet sensation.

What many viewers find especially striking is the calmness of the animal. Despite his enormous size, Tamariz moves carefully through the house without causing destruction or displaying aggression. It is exactly this contrast between the immense power of a fighting bull and his almost peaceful behaviour that is currently fascinating millions of people across Spain.

At the same time, the owners repeatedly stress that Tamariz remains a Toro Bravo. Even though he is used to humans, he is still an extremely strong and potentially dangerous animal. His behaviour, they warn, could change at any moment — particularly when familiar people are not present.

The story is now also sparking wider discussions in Spain. Many people are talking about animal behaviour, the intelligence of cattle and how strongly animals can change when they grow up in close contact with humans from birth.

One thing is certain: Tamariz has already become a small media phenomenon. And all of Spain is now waiting for the next video of the bull that apparently prefers wandering through a living room to roaming across a field.
