According to new information, Martiño Ramos, a former teacher from Galicia who was convicted of sexually abusing a minor student, was recently seen in Havana, Cuba. He is believed to be living there under a false identity. The Cuban community in Spain has also mobilised and is circulating his photo on social media to help in the search.

The Spanish National Police have once again included him on their list of the ten most wanted fugitives – individuals who are considered particularly dangerous and for whose arrest investigators are expressly requesting international assistance.

A case that shook Galicia

Martiño Ramos Soto, 50, worked as a music teacher in Ourense in north-western Spain. The case attracted a great deal of attention, not only because of the seriousness of the offences – repeated sexual abuse and sadistic practices against a female student aged between 12 and 16 – but also because Ramos had previously been active in local feminist and left-wing movements.

He was sentenced to 13 years in prison but disappeared before he could begin serving his sentence. According to the police description, Ramos is slim, has dark skin, wavy grey-streaked hair and brown eyes. He is considered extremely dangerous.

Information on staying in Cuba

For months, investigators have suspected that Ramos may have fled to Cuba. According to various sources, he is said to be moving around several districts of Havana using false identity documents. The police are checking this information as well as clues shared on social media by members of the Cuban diaspora in Spain.

The police have set up the email address losmasbuscados@policia.es for tips, to which information can also be sent anonymously.

In addition, the police released updated photos of all wanted persons, including AI-based reconstructions showing possible changes in appearance.
