Millions of people across Spain looked to the skies yesterday, but one extraordinary video from the total solar eclipse has captivated the country: Spanish Olympic skateboarder Danny León soaring through the air on his board, perfectly framed against the darkened Sun.
The spectacular sequence quickly spread across social media, becoming one of the most striking and widely shared videos of Spain’s historic eclipse on 12 August 2026.
At first glance, the footage looks almost too perfect to be real. Yet this was no computer-generated scene and certainly no lucky accident. It was the result of meticulous planning, precise positioning and a skateboard trick that had to be performed at exactly the right moment.
The sequence was filmed in the province of Huesca, within the path of totality of the eclipse.
A jump where every second mattered
Everything had to come together: the location, camera position, angle of the Sun and, crucially, the precise moment at which León launched himself from the ramp.
Working alongside filmmaker Gonzalo de Vega and photographer José Ángel Izquierdo, known as Jaicano, León prepared the ambitious shot in advance.
The idea was simple. Achieving it was anything but.
León had to be airborne at precisely the right moment and in precisely the right position for his silhouette and skateboard to pass across the darkened solar disc.
It worked.
For a fleeting moment, the Spanish skateboarder appears to fly straight across the eclipse, his body and board sharply silhouetted against the enormous darkened Sun.
The resulting footage looks almost surreal.
This skateboard trick may never be eclipsed.

‘The trick of my life’
León later described the feat as “the trick of my life” – and it is difficult to imagine a more appropriate description.
A professional skateboarder can repeat a jump hundreds of times. What cannot be recreated on demand is a total solar eclipse appearing in exactly the right place, at exactly the right angle, for only a matter of moments.
The footage rapidly went viral after being shared online, attracting attention across Spain and beyond.
Who is Danny León?
Born in Móstoles, near Madrid, in 1994, Danny León is one of Spain’s best-known international skateboarders.
He has represented Spain at the Olympic Games and is particularly associated with park skateboarding, building an international following through his distinctive style and spectacular tricks.
Yet even after years at the highest level of the sport, this particular jump is likely to occupy a special place in his career.
A few seconds that may never be repeated
Yesterday’s total solar eclipse was an extraordinary event for Spain, with parts of the country lying directly within the path of totality and experiencing the rare sight of the Moon completely covering the Sun.
Countless spectators reached for their cameras and mobile phones to capture the spectacle.
Danny León and his team, however, had something very different in mind.
They turned one of nature’s rarest spectacles into the backdrop for a perfectly timed sporting feat, combining skateboarding, cinematography and astronomy in a sequence lasting only seconds.
The result has become one of the defining videos of Spain’s eclipse: a Spanish skateboarder suspended in mid-air, his board beneath his feet and a black Sun behind him.
A few seconds of footage – and a moment that may never be recreated.
