Public defence via social media
Spanish singer Julio Iglesias has published several private WhatsApp messages on his Instagram account which, he says, were sent to him by two former employees. By making the messages public, the artist aims to refute allegations of sexual misconduct and present his own account of events.
The chats show an informal and at times warm tone, consistent with what might be expected in a long-standing working or trust-based relationship. The exchanges appear relaxed, occasionally appreciative and, in some passages, openly cordial.

Criticism of the public prosecutor’s office
According to Iglesias, he is currently unable to defend himself through the usual legal channels. He claims the public prosecutor has not granted him “formal access” to the complaint filed against him, leaving him unaware of the specific allegations. Publishing the private messages, he argues, is therefore “the only means” currently available to exercise his right to defence.
“Everything has its limits”
In a statement circulated on social media, the singer maintains that the messages, dating from 2021 to 2023, demonstrate the “untruth” of the accusations. The evidence, he says, is “clear”. Iglesias describes it as “extremely serious” that, in his view, “lies and disinformation are being used as weapons to attack people”, adding that “everything has its limits”.
Legal action and jurisdictional dispute
At the same time, Iglesias’ legal team has formally requested that the public prosecutor at the Audiencia Nacionalprovide a copy of the complaint. In their filing, the defence describes it as “unusual” that the person under investigation should be denied access to the document. They have also sought the dismissal of the proceedings, arguing that the Spanish courts lack jurisdiction over the alleged acts.
Background to the allegations
collaboration with Univisión Noticias. Two former domestic workers allege that they were subjected to sexual assault while employed by the singer. One of the women claims she was pressured into sexual contact and reports both physical and verbal abuse. The alleged incidents are said to have taken place in 2021, when she was 22 years old.
A three-year investigation
The investigation spanned three years and included interviews with 15 former female employees who reportedly worked for Iglesias between 1990 and 2023. According to the media outlets involved, the testimonies were repeatedly verified and supported by materials such as WhatsApp messages, phone records, visa documents, medical reports and other evidence.
Allegations in multiple countries
The alleged incidents are said to have occurred at properties owned by Julio Iglesias in Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic, and in Lyford Cay, in the Bahamas. The claimants state that individuals within the household management structure were aware of the situation.
The singer’s response
Julio Iglesias has publicly described the allegations as “absolutely false” and said the situation has left him “deeply saddened”. In earlier statements, he insisted that he still has the strength to ensure that “the whole truth comes out” and to defend his dignity against what he considers a serious personal attack.
