The death of Mango founder Isak Andic continues to attract significant attention in Spain. The entrepreneur, one of the country’s best-known and wealthiest business figures, died in December 2024 while hiking in the Montserrat mountain range near Barcelona. Authorities initially treated the case as an accident after Andic fell from a significant height into a ravine during the excursion.

However, the investigation has now taken a new turn. Spanish law enforcement authorities are re-examining the case as a potential non-natural death, after questions arose during the course of the inquiry regarding the exact sequence of events during the hike.
Focus of the investigation on accompanying person
At the centre of the current investigation is Jonathan Andic, the son of the deceased businessman. According to current findings, he was the only person believed to have been with his father in the mountain area at the time of the incident.
Investigators are currently focusing in particular on the timeline of events, inconsistencies that appear in statements, and the question of how exactly the fall occurred. They are also examining whether there may have been additional factors that could have contributed to the death of Isak Andic.
Jonathan Andic was temporarily detained and questioned as part of the investigation. According to sources close to the inquiry, this measure forms part of the ongoing investigation and does not constitute a formal charge. Whether and in what form a formal criminal case will be brought remains unclear at this stage.
A case of significant public attention
The case has attracted significant media and public attention in Spain, not least due to the prominent role of the Andic family. Isak Andic founded the fashion chain Mango, which is now internationally active and one of the largest fashion companies in Europe. His fortune was estimated at several billion euros.
Jonathan Andic also plays an important role within the company and has previously been considered a potential successor to the leadership of the group.
Investigations are ongoing
The relevant authorities emphasise that the investigation remains at an early to intermediate stage. Various expert reports, reconstructions, and witness statements are now expected to help clarify the exact sequence of events.
It remains completely unclear at this stage whether the death of Isak Andic will ultimately continue to be classified as an accident or whether suspicions of a criminal offence will be substantiated.
